7 ARROWS : Hebrews 6

God’s New Covenant is a sure foundation for this life and the life to come.

The key to this entire difficult passage would not have slipped by its original audience- v.13-20 the New Covenant.

God is the ultimate promise keeper.

The default of humanity is to find peace with God by what we do.

God’s covenant promise can be counted on, so celebrate it!

This new covenant explained really gets to the heart of the Gospel. God can be trusted.

Father, thank you for your never ending, always solid, promise. I’m fully depending on you!

7 ARROWS : Hebrews 5

Jesus is the perfect High Priest.

This audience knew the limitations of their current temple system.

Jesus was obedient to the Father’s mission.

Laziness contributes to stunted spiritual growth.

Feast with King Jesus.

Verses 11-14 distinguish between spiritual babies and the spiritually mature.

Father, give me an appetite and capacity to feast with you and grow me for your glory.

7 ARROWS : Hebrews 4

Jesus is a gracious and merciful High Priest ready to step in on our behalf.

The portrayal of Jesus as both sympathetic and helpful was quite different than the earthly High Priest.

God is both holy and compassionate.

We desperately need Jesus day by day.

“Approach the throne of grace with boldness…” (v.16).

Verses 14-16 are a touching picture of what Jesus does for his own right now.

Lord Jesus, your compassionate grace is staggering. Thank you for the way you still actively intervene on the behalf of weaklings like me.

7 ARROWS : Hebrews 3

Jesus is our great leader and High Priest.

The contrast of Jesus being superior to the Jewish “superman”, Moses, is striking.

Jesus is faithful.

It is possible to hear God and still turn away from him.

Believe on Christ fully.

Sin deceives it’s prey, “you have plenty of time to turn to God.” But maybe not.

Father, help me make the most out of today- to seek and serve you today.

7 ARROWS : Hebrews 2

Jesus came on his mission to earth as a man so he could relate to people and atone for their sin.

The idea of “God in flesh” was a difficult concept for faithful Jews.

God is faithfully just in his punishment of sin and merciful in that he paid through Jesus.

Man is sinful and sin has to be paid for by someone.

Do no neglect being grateful daily for salvation.

God was merciful to man by being unmerciful towards the punishment of his Son.

Lord Jesus, I trust completely in your perfect love and sacrifice.

7 ARROWS : Hebrews 1

God has revealed himself in all majesty to the word through Jesus.

The many OT references would have appealed to the original Jewish/Hebrew readers.

Jesus is superior.

There is a reason the author had to teach Jesus’ superiority over angels.

Look to Jesus as God’s greatest revelation to mankind.

“The Son [Jesus] is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his nature…” (v.3).

Lord Jesus, you are all powerful and ruler of all.

7 ARROWS : Philemon 1

Paul meets a runaway servant of Philemon and leads him to Christ. This letter to Paul’s friend, Philemon, is asking for Onesimus’ forgiveness and freedom as he returns to make things right.

I’m guessing this very personal letter of appeal was readily received by Paul’s friend. Paul quite probably led Philemon himself to the Lord!

God is sovereignly restores even through tangles and broken circumstances.

We all have bad circumstances that seem hopeless to navigate…but God is able.

Trust God no matter what.

This entire passage give great hope of the Gospel straightening out the most tangled messes.

Lord God, you are sovereign. I trust you no matter what.

7 ARROWS : Colossians 4

Paul ends this letter emphasizing prayer that synchronizes our lives to the mission of God.

The numerous personal words to friend were likely warmly received.

God has entrusted his mission to be carried out by his people.

We are prone to distraction. This is why re-centering prayer is so important.

Be prayerful and pay attention!

Verses 2-6 are pure gold. Be ready and make wise use of time.

Lord God, thank you for the gift of time. Help me invest it wisely.

7 ARROWS : Colossians 3:18-25

The Christians home should resemble a little church.

Straightforward practical tips like this would be very difficult to misread or misapply.

God is concerned with how our faith is put into action. I would say this is particularly true in the home.

Each one of these people/groups (wives, husbands, children, servants, fathers…) gravitate toward particular sin-tainted relationship problems if left unchecked.

Be #onpurpose at home first.

There is something for everyone here.

Lord, help me be a faithful ambassador and disciple-maker at home. This is the most important ministry I will ever have.

7 ARROWS : Colossians 3:1-17

Paul gives before and after lists of being transformed by Christ.

After warning of the influential heretics in chapter 2 this section reminds us of what being transformed by Jesus really looks like.

God transforms and redeems all who are in Christ.

Look at the “earthy nature” (v.5) to see why we need to be transformed in the first place.

“Put off” and “put on”.

Jesus is in the life changing business. Witnesses like this rock the world with their first hand testimonies of what God has done in their lives!

Lord Jesus, thanks you for the new wardrobe. Help me put it to good use!
